AF-Area Mode

Nikon 1 cameras let you control how the focus area is selected through a selection of AF-area modes that includes subject tracking and auto-area and single-point AF. AF-area mode selection is also available when the camera is used to record movies.

Auto area
Single point

Auto Area:
The camera automatically detects the subject and selects the focus area.

Single Point:
Use for static subjects. Press the OK button to view the focus-area selection display, then use the multi selector to position the focus area over your subject and press OK again. When the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the camera will focus on the subject in the selected focus area only.

Subject tracking

Subject Tracking:
Use with moving subjects. The camera tracks the subject in the selected focus area as it moves through the frame.

Procedure

The "F" (Feature) Menu

Pressing "F" in mode P, S, A, or M displays the items listed below.

1: Shooting mode
2: Shutter speed
3: Aperture
4: ISO sensitivity
5: AF-area mode, Focus mode, Metering, Picture Control, White balance
Pressing "F" in creative mode displays the items listed below. The items available vary with the option selected for creative mode.

6: AF-area mode, Focus mode, Metering, Picture Control, White balance, Image size, Select color, Filter strength, Portrait, Hue, Saturation, Vignetting
The Shooting Menu

To display the shooting menu, press MENU and select "Shooting".
