For quickly checking if the camera is level, use the virtual horizon that remains lit in red in the viewfinder in Long-exposure manual (M*) mode.

The D810A employs a virtual horizon display in the viewfinder, which allows you to check the camera's pitch and roll (Virtual horizon display for the LCD monitor is also available). The virtual horizon that remains lit in red in the viewfinder exclusively in Long-exposure manual (M*) mode allows quick adjustment of the horizontal level in star landscape shooting.

Assign the viewfinder virtual horizon function to the (function) or (preview) button via “f4” in the Custom Settings menu.

Set exposure mode to Long-exposure manual (M*).

Press the button preset with the viewfinder virtual horizon function in Step
The virtual horizon lights up in red. It will turn off by pressing the same button again. The indicators can also be turned off by half-pressing the shutter-release button. Please use whichever is convenient.
