TOKYO-Nikon Corporation today kicked off CES 2016 with a progressive business blueprint to strengthen its position as the foremost leader in imaging. This move follows the company's 2014 announcement to solidify Nikon's core imaging business, and is part of the company's biggest transformative reorganisation since 1999.
Nikon has focused its efforts on a series of strategic alignments, culminating in a progressive business blueprint unveiled at CES 2016. This has come as a response to market changes on two fronts: how consumers are innovating the way they use images and videos in their everyday life; and how the tremendous rate of technological innovation is creating new opportunities and defining new segments in imaging.
Nobuyoshi Gokyu, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Imaging Business Unit, Nikon Corporation, unveiled the company's business blueprint at CES 2016, which is underpinned by three strategic focal points.
The first places consumers at the centre of Nikon's innovation, and closely anticipates their appetite for visual content and their use of images. The second focal point goes to the heart of Nikon's heritage — that of creating mind-opening technologies that exceed the industry benchmark of technical excellence — but this time, ensuring that these technologies help consumers see the possibilities of what a photo or video can do. The third centres on connecting Nikon's technologies to the broader ecosystem of smart devices, thus creating a universal language of photography.

Nikon's product showcase for CES 2016 is thus aligned to bring each strategic focal point to life. By placing photographers' needs at the centre of the innovation roadmap and tapping on Nikon's core DSLR expertise, Nikon unveiled two of the brand's finest flagship cameras yet, for professionals and enthusiasts alike. The D5 sits at the apex of Nikon's award-winning FX-format DSLRs, representing the most ambitious and powerful professional-level camera in the Nikon line-up. This has been designed for unrivalled speed and accuracy to stand up to the most demanding of shooting conditions and the most discerning of professionals.
CES 2016 also saw the unveiling of the D500, featuring the highest level of innovation amongst the popular DX-format DSLRs and seamless connectivity for immediate social sharing aimed at advanced enthusiasts and professionals. This demonstrates another side of Nikon's technical excellence as the D500 pairs some of the company's most sophisticated technologies in a compact body to create the category's most progressive offering.
