Back in 1986, when I never imagined making a living with my camera yet, I had the opportunity to watch the FIFA World Cup Mexico on TV. I can clearly remember that I couldn’t take my eyes off the outstanding fine plays shown by Diego Maradona of Argentina. And four years later at the FIFA World Cup in Italy, I had the opportunity to watch the live game between Yugoslavia team’s Pixy (Dragan Stojković) dancing in the pitch lead by Ivica Osim and Diego Maradona’s Argentina team at Firenze in the scorching heat. It was this exciting experience that made me jump into the world of sports photography. My father, Ken Kishimoto, was a pioneer in sports photography in Japan. Through my father, international sporting events such as the Olympics and FIFA World Cup were close to me since childhood. Back then, I asked my father to let me work at Photo Kishimoto, his studio. I gained many photographic skills working with him, leading up to the present.
