Camera Functions

Movies

Record High Definition (HD) movies with an aspect ratio of 16 to 9 or slow-motion movies with an aspect ratio of 8 to 3.

HD movie
Slow-motion movie

Movies can be recorded in the following shooting modes:

Auto mode:
The camera automatically optimizes settings for the current subject or situation.

Creative mode:
Regardless of the creative mode selected, the camera sets shutter speed and aperture automatically.

Advanced movie mode, mode P (programmed auto):
The camera controls shutter speed and aperture.

Advanced movie mode , mode S (shutter-priority auto):
You choose the shutter speed and the camera automatically adjusts aperture for optimal exposure.

Advanced movie mode, mode A (aperture-priority auto):
You choose the aperture and the camera automatically adjusts shutter speed for optimal exposure.

Advanced movie mode, mode M (manual):
You choose the shutter speed and aperture.

Slow motion:
Record silent, slow-motion movies. Movies are recorded at 400 frames per second and play back at about 30 frames per second.

Procedure

Recording HD Movies

01. Frame the opening shot.

Frame the opening shot with your subject in the center of the display.
02. Press the movie-record button to begin recording.

Sounds will be recorded simultaneously.

At default settings, HD movies can be up to 20 minutes in length.

By default, the camera focuses continuously; to avoid recording focus noise, select Single AF for Focus mode in the movie menu.

03. Press the movie-record button again to end recording.
Recording Slow-Motion Movies

01. Press the MENU button to display the menus, then select Shooting mode.
02. Highlight Advanced movie, and press OK.
03. Press the feature button, then highlight Slow motion and press OK.
04. Frame the opening shot.

Frame the opening shot with your subject in the center of the display.
05. Press the shutter-release button halfway to focus.

06. Press the movie-record button to begin recording.

Up to 3 seconds of footage can be recorded.

07. Press the movie-record button again to end recording.
