Power management is particularly important for professional photographers, who rely on being able to concentrate on taking pictures without continuously checking available power. The D3 employs a comprehensive power management system from image sensor to final output to the memory card. Taking advantage of the same battery type as the Nikon D2 series, the D3 has successfully lowered power consumption for the Nikon FX-format sensor (which is larger and potentially more power-hungry than Nikon DX-format). The D300 has also achieved low power consumption through the deployment of column-parallel A/D converters within the imaging sensor and by employing LVDS (low voltage differential signal) output circuitry.
