The analog signal of the D3 maintains a high S/N ratio through the combination of column amplifiers and differential signal output amplifiers. After 12-channel high-speed readout, the D3 executes 14-bit A/D conversion to obtain superior tonal gradation from the pure analog signal. Using dedicated hardware, the D3 performs optimum digitalization at latter stages. Within the imaging sensor, the D300 incorporates A/D converters that execute 12-bit or 14-bit and transmits the data for 16-bit processing at a later stage.
