Even as Nikon has achieved dramatically improved performance levels, we have also relentlessly pursued space- and energy-saving designs. Nikon has achieved high-density component mounting with a pitch of 0.1mm. This level of integration has given Nikon digital SLR cameras a lean, muscular form. For example, USB, video, HDMI and other circuits that were previously located on separate boards are now connected directly to the image processing engine board to save space and establish a mounting system that makes full use of the wasted space that measuring in units of whole millimeters had created. Nikon also reviews each component from the perspective of maximum simplicity and, component-by-component, is achieving greater energy efficiency.
