| Planned as the successor of "Nikon S2" (1954). Basic model of "Nikon SP" (1958) series (= "Nikon SP / S3 / S4 (1954) / S3M (1960)"). Finder was Albada type, and bright frames for 3.5, 5 and 10.5 cm lenses were fixed (with parallax compensation mark, not automatic compensation). Since Nikon S3 had bright finder frame for 3.5 cm lens, Nippon Kogaku K.K. changed the finder magnification from 1.0 x to 0.9 x around the autumn of 1958. The material of shutter curtain was rubberized silk cloth even after the release of "Nikon F" (1959), but was changed to titanium at the time of recommencing the production in 1965-08 as mentioned below. Discontinued in 1960-10, but recommenced the production in 1965-08 in limited quantity. Black body only was sold at that time. The price of the camera with Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4 lens was 71,400- Japanese Yen.
