To ensure accurate reproduction of the colors you create with Picture Control, we recommend calibrating your display and setting up the printing printer printing color management output as described below.

- Calibrate display and create profile as follows, according to your computer operating system (for details, see your computer’s user guide). ・Windows: Install and run display Calibration Utility ・Macintosh: Run the Correction Utility located within the Color tab, inside the Display folder of the System Preferences
[Note] Display performance decreases as time passes. For optimum results, we recommend that you update display calibration and make profiles once a month.
- ・Calibrator (Colorimetric Equipment) Recommendation
- Although your display can be calibrated by eyesight, when repeated you cannot expect consistent accuracy due to individual differences and health variations. For these reasons, when undertaking regular calibrations, we recommend you use specialized software and a calibrator (colorimetric equipment).
When using D50 fluorescents for color judgment as environmental light, set the color temperature to D50 (white spot setting). For other lighting, use the appropriate environmental color measurement function.
The D50 light source is similar to the Nippon Printing Institute’s recommended color temperature standard of 5000K and is suitable for color-proofing prints. Furthermore, the D65 light source is close to the JIS standard of 6500K, which resembles D65 artificial daylight, a condition of natural light without much direct sunlight, making it suitable for common color evaluation.
In the printing industry, “standard lighting for color evaluations of printmaking and printing” has been established as an attempt at standardization. In brief, it states that D50 auxiliary illumination correlates with a color temperature of 5000K, and the average color rendering index Ra must be above 90.
JIS regulations recognize standard illuminants for color evaluation (normal light) and a normal light source (Z-8720) as standard illuminant and auxiliary illuminant, but color evaluations of paint, fabric and plastic products are, in many cases, undertaken using a light source resembling the standard illuminant D65 (color temperature 6504K).

- 1. Using an image management application, assign an ICC profile* that corresponds to the specific combination of printer and paper.
- 2. Turn OFF the printer’s tone correction function.
- * For the optimum results, download the ICC profile that most closely corresponds to your needs from the printer manufacturer’s website. Printer manufacturers’ ICC profiles are designed for various specific combinations of their printers and original papers.
[Note] For more accurate printing, it is recommended that you use a recognized profile-making tool. When using an ICC profile that you created with a recognized profile-making tool, the printer driver’s auto correction function has to be OFF.
- ・Profile-Making Tool Recommendation
- Even when using an ICC profile designated by the printer maker, colors may change to some degree as a result of the environment in which the printer is located and the passage of time since the ink was placed in the printer. For more accurate printing, it is recommended that you use a recognized profile-making tool.** When using an ICC profile that you’ve created with a recognized profile-making tool, the printer driver’s auto correction function has to be OFF.
