Nikon Integrated Dust Reduction System | Two new ways to keep dust out of the picture - Airflow Control System & Image Sensor Cleaning

Less dust on the image sensor means clearer images.

Dust in front of your camera sensor can mean distracting spots on your pictures. That's why Nikon does everything to ensure clear pictures, including minimizing the build-up and appearance of dust.
Nikon's exclusive Airflow Control System is one of the two main protections against dust. It leads air within the mirror box towards small ducts near the base, preventing internal dust from settling in front of the image sensor. The D60's second form of defense is the Imaging Sensor Cleaning function, which was originally built for the D300.
Every time you turn the camera on or off, this function uses vibrations to steer dust away from the optical low-pass filter in front of the sensor (deactivation and manual activation are also possible).
Nikon engineers have also dealt with dust and other tiny particles in many other ways to prevent such image-degrading material from attaching to the filter or being seen by the sensor when you are taking pictures.
With all these measures in place, you can concentrate on getting the shot while exploring the wide array of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses that a Nikon digital SLR opens up to you.

Aperture-Priority Auto

Simply select the aperture to control the depth-of-field, and the camera determines the ideal shutter speed.

Manual

Choose both the shutter speed and the aperture on your own. Refer to the electronic analog exposure display for help with appropriate exposures.

Shutter speed | Capture more moments, more beautifully

The D60 lets you control the shutter speed, with speeds ranging from 1/4000 to 30 sec. You will be able to freeze just about any action or movement: sports, wildlife, children and even splashing water! With slow shutter speeds, you can express the movement of the subjects.

ISO sensitivity+ Noise reduction | Clear image even with a high ISO up to 1600

The D60 has a wide range of ISO settings: from ISO 100 to ISO 1600, plus one step higher (Hi 1). This gives you considerably faster shutter speed capability, resulting in beautiful images without a flash in many low-light situations – all free from the blur caused by camera-shake or subject movement.
Another benefit is Nikon’s Noise reduction feature. When activated, this function automatically reduces unwanted noise in any picture taken with the D60 above ISO 400.

Active D-Lighting | Rich, smooth detail

Sometimes, even a perfectly exposed scene will not render an ideal photograph. With difficult lighting conditions, important details can be lost in the highlights and shadows.
But with Nikon’s Active D-Lighting, the D60 can correct these exposure issues instantly and automatically, while you shoot. Simply set Active D-Lighting before you start shooting.

Active D-Lighting is available when "Matrix" is selected for metering.

Exposure compensation | Exposures as you want them to be

-1EV
0
+1EV

Exposure compensation is available with P/S/A/M modes and can be very important to achieve properly exposed pictures of extremely bright or dark subjects. Increase the compensation for accuracy in extremely bright areas. For scenes dominated by dark colors, simply lower the compensation until the image appears as you see fit.

Autofocus | Quick & accurate, autofocus

In order to capture an action shot properly, you need a fast and reliable focusing system. The D60 has you covered. The key is Nikon’s exclusive three-point Multi-CAM 530 AF Sensor Module.
Nikon’s class-leading technology is at the heart of the system, so you’ll get incredibly fast responses and tack-sharp images, even when your subjects are moving or dimly lit.

Quick responses | No more missing the moment

Amazing moments can pass by quickly, but the D60’s high-speed continuous shooting helps capture fast-moving action at up to 3 pictures per second* for as many as 100 (JPEG) pictures.
Also, the fast 0.19-second startup, split-second shooting time lag and rapid, accurate autofocus help you capture more fast-moving moments with precision.

*The fastest frame rates can be achieved by choosing manual focus, rotating the mode dial to S or M and selecting a shutter speed of 1/250 s or faster, using defaults for all other settings.

3D Color Matrix Metering II | Accurate exposures at your service

Cameras see light differently than we do, but Nikon’s incredible 3D Color Matrix Metering II gets you incredibly accurate exposures automatically. Thanks to its built-in database of over 30,000 lighting scenarios, the D60 calculates precise exposures in ways no one else can deliver, taking into account every element of your scene, including contrast, color, highlights and shadows. It’s like having a seasoned professional at your fingertips, and all you have to do is point and shoot.

White balance | The right mood for your light

Auto
Incandescent
Fluorescent

Different light sources produce different colors in pictures, the D60’s remarkable white balance technology ensures that your pictures are unaffected. Advanced Auto White Balance handles most lighting situations automatically, but when using P/S/A/M modes, you can also choose your own settings independently, or according to your lighting situation (Incandescent, Fluorescent, Direct sunlight, Flash, Cloudy, Shade, Preset manual).

Built-in flash | Intelligent built-in flash — simply brilliant

Proper flash lighting used to require skill, time and patience. With the D60, however, flash photography is simple, instant and accurate. Thanks to Nikon’s cutting-edge i-TTL flash technology, all the complicated calculations happen automatically, giving you balanced flash illumination under almost any conditions, even difficult lighting situations such as backlit subjects. With AUTO mode, you just point, shoot and let the camera do the rest. It’s that simple.

Optimize image | Your pictures, your taste

The Optimize Image menu offers 7 options: Normal, Softer, Vivid, More vivid, Portrait, Black-and-white and Custom. Select the final look for your pictures considering the shooting situation and your own personal taste.
