| Kazuyoshi Nomachi was born in 1946 in Kochi Prefecture, Japan.In 1971 he began his freelance career as an advertising photographer. He turned to photojournalism the following year in 1972, inspired by his first encounter with the Sahara Desert. |

| Since then, he has traveled around the world, actively capturing people who cope with harsh natural environments in their daily lives. In 1995, he travelled to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of a Saudi publisher and spent five years photographing the great annual hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, garnering high acclaim both in and abroad.

| His work has won numerous prizes, among them the Photographic Society of Japan’s Newcomers Award, NPPA’s BOP Second Place in Magazine Feature category, the Domon Ken Award, Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts, and the Photographic Society of Japan’s Award of the Year. |
