Picture Control System makes it easy to select and apply optimizing adjustments
The D300 is equipped with Nikon's original Picture Control System, which features intuitive operation and easy settings that let you produce finished images as you envision them. Those using multiple camera bodies will also appreciate that the same settings produce consistent picture tone on all camera models that support the Nikon Picture Control system. The Picture Control System offers four basic setting options - Standard, Neutral, Vivid and Monochrome. These can be easily modified using the slide controls to adjust image parameters, including sharpness, contrast, brightness, color saturation, and tone.* The modified settings can be saved as a custom Picture Control, and up to nine custom Picture Controls can be stored within the camera. The custom Picture Controls stored within the camera can also be exported to memory cards, making them available for use in other compatible cameras and allowing them to be shared among users.
* When working with the Monochrome Picture Control, a number of monochrome filter effects are available in place of the color saturation and tone adjustments.
Quick Adjust function makes adjustments fast and easy
Quick Adjust makes it fast and easy to adjust the settings for sharpness, contrast and brightness all at once, offering a five-step adjustment slide bar numbered from -2 to +2.
*Note that Quick Adjust is not available for the Neutral or Monochrome Picture Controls.
Grid display offers intuitive feedback for easier photo finishing
Grid display plots color saturation and contrast on a visual map, allowing for intuitive adjustment choices based on the visual feedback of coordinated values as you move the slider.
Standard
Suitable for most shooting situations, produces results that are colorful, yet with a balanced, natural tone.
Neutral
Produces natural-looking results that establish a precedence for reproducing the subject material in a manner that is well suited for editing and post-processing.
Vivid
Produces colorful results with extra punch. A handy setting when you wish to emphasize primary colors.
Monochrome
Produces black & white, sepia and other monochrome images. Offers filter effects and tone control including red, orange, green and yellow.
Custom Picture Controls
