D810A Shooting Guide

Since the D810A has sensitivity that reacts to red light near the H-alpha wavelength, subjects reflecting red light may cause reddish color cast or provide color reproduction that may be different from what you see with the naked eyes.

Subjects with slight differences in color reproduction

• In many scenes under natural light, images taken with the D810A exhibit slight red-color cast, however, the differences from those taken with the D810 are minimized.

• For scenes taken with the D810A under general cool-white fluorescent light indoors or night landscape shots, red-color cast is slightly visible, however, the differences from those taken with the D810 are minimized.

Subjects with large differences in color reproduction

According to subjects or light conditions, the differences in color reproduction from the D810 may become apparent. Since red light near the H-alpha wavelength to which the D810A reacts is difficult to perceive with the naked eyes, resulting images of some subjects may provide different color reproduction from what is actually seen. Even when an appropriate white balance is set with Preset manual, reducing the differences is difficult. For general photography, after understanding these points, it is recommended to take a test shot before shooting important photographs.

• Black cloth may reflect red light from light sources including sunlight, depending on the materials, resulting in a reddish cast in that area. (This is not caused by red subjects/surroundings.)

• For images of red or purple colored flowers, the red color may look stronger or cause inadequate color reproduction.

Also, the green color of plants may be reproduced lighter.

• Since images of sunset or the morning glow contain red color elements, the red color may be reproduced stronger.
