Superior operability

Coaxially located mode dial and release mode dial

Mode dial lock release

The mode dial and release mode dial are coaxially located to improve operability. Quick mode switching is possible. For the D600, the mode dial incorporates a lock function, as well as the release mode dial. The mode dial lock release is easy to operate allowing smooth and secure release. Quiet shutter-release mode, which is quieter than single frame mode, can be set using the release mode dial.

Approx. 921k-dot, wide-viewing angle, 8-cm (3.2-in.) LCD monitor with reinforced glass that reduces the surface reflection of each part to deliver clear visibility with its integrated structure of glass and panel

Ambient brightness sensor

The D600's large, wide-viewing-angle, 8-cm (3.2-in.), approx. 921k-dot, high-definition LCD monitor achieves clear visibility with less surface reflection by means of an integrated structure of glass and panel. The color reproduction range is further extended compared with conventional models. The ability to magnify playback images up to approx. 38x (Large-size images in FX format) is extremely helpful for quick and accurate focus confirmation. Moreover, the D600 employs an ambient brightness sensor. If monitor brightness is set to "Auto", the camera automatically adjusts LCD brightness when the monitor turns on according to the environmental lighting conditions, allowing easy live view or image confirmation.

LCD monitor with an integrated structure of glass and panel realizes a clearer image

Air space between glass and panel causes reflections at the surfaces of each part, resulting in some light loss.
D600 (equivalent to that of the D4 and D800 series)
Surface reflection is reduced and light loss greatly decreased due to the integrated structure of glass and panel.

Live view optimized for still images/movies selectable with live view selector

The D600 comes equipped with live view for still images and movies, providing display and operation optimized for each of them. This can be switched smoothly using the coaxially located live view button and live view selector. Live view photography is dedicated to still image shooting with the same aspect ratio as the viewfinder. And the speed of contrast-detect AF is equivalent to that of the D4 and D800 series. In live view, it is possible to magnify images up to approx. 19x to check the exact focus. Also, metering in live view is adjusted to suit the live view display, producing photographs with exposure close to what is seen in the monitor.

Movie-record button

For movie live view, the D600 incorporates dedicated exposure controls that enable smooth exposure transitions even if the brightness of the scene varies drastically. The setting information display is switched to either that for still images or movies according to the selected live view. Also, you can shoot still images in 16:9 aspect ratio by pressing the shutter-release button during movie live view or movie recording. (Movie recording will end and the footage recorded up to that point will be saved.)

Contrast-detect AF that enables sharp focusing

The D600's enhanced contrast-detect AF speed is equivalent to that of the D4 and D800 series. During live view and movie recording, high-speed and sharp focusing is realized. Selectable autofocus modes include single-servo AF (AF-S) suitable for still image shooting, and full-time-servo AF (AF-F) for movie shooting. Also, from four AF-area modes, you can select the most appropriate mode according to your subject. Contrast-detect AF allows you to focus anywhere within a frame to expand your creative freedom.

Normal-area AF

AF-area modes

-Face-priority AF
Suitable for focusing on a person's face such as for a commemorative photo. Up to 35 faces can be detected. When multiple faces are detected, the camera will focus on the subject recognized to be the closest. Alternatively, you can choose a different face in the frame with the multi selector.

-Wide-area AF
For handheld shooting of landscape shots. The focus point can be moved to the desired position within a frame.

-Normal-area AF
Since the focus point is smaller than that of the wide-area AF, it is ideal for tripod shooting to achieve a pin-point focus in close-up shots. The focus point can be moved to the desired position within a frame.

-Subject-tracking AF
Suitable for a moving subject. After focus is locked with the center button of the multi selector, the focus point tracks the subject's movement.

Virtual horizon that can detect inclination in rolling and pitching directions

The in-camera virtual horizon can detect both rolling (horizontal inclination) and pitching (forward or rear inclination) directions and display the inclination of the rolling and pitching directions on the LCD monitor and rolling direction in the viewfinder. This function is especially useful when shooting subjects such as still lifes, landscapes and architecture.

Quiet shutter-release mode

The quiet shutter-release mode is suitable when you want to shoot with less mirror movement sound. For a single frame, the mirror does not click back into place while the shutter-release button is fully pressed, allowing delay of the timing of the click made by the mirror and insulating the sound by covering the camera with a cloth, which is also quieter than in single frame mode. Simply select "Q" on the release mode dial to smoothly switch between single frame mode and quiet shutter-release mode as needed. This is convenient for occasions such as a ceremony, school play or when taking pictures of wildlife, insects, or a sleeping child.

WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter (optional) that enables remote shooting and transmission of images to a smart device [NEW]

WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter

By attaching the optional WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter to the D600's USB connector, two-way communication between the camera and a smart device such as a smartphone or tablet computer with built-in wireless communication function is possible. By using the remote shooting function that allows you to release the shutter of a camera from a distance, it is possible to use the monitor display of the smart device as a live view display and shoot from the best angle. The taken images can be transmitted wirelessly and you can enjoy a variety of applications such as uploading to an SNS or attaching them to a mail easily. The WU-1b is compatible with smart devices using the Android OS and iOS.

Note: This function requires installing of Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility to the smart device prior to use.
