Ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that fully captures the scene
AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED
2.4x ultra-wide-angle zoom lens covering 109° angle of view. Come closer to a subject to capture the scene with wide background and dynamically described subject. It is also available as a standard lens because it includes an angle of view suited for candid shooting, etc. Furthermore, close-up shooting is possible at telephoto position. Optimal for situations such as interiors with limited space, architecture and landscapes, or when you want to emphasize perspective.
Nikon's original Vibration Reduction (VR) that even compensates blur in the viewfinder image
Vibration Reduction reduces blur caused by camera shake of still images and movies effectively in conditions when it is likely to occur such as at dusk or in low-light indoor situations*1, even when you are using a micro or telephoto lens. Nikon offers built-in Vibration Reduction function in lens*2. Unlike the vibration reduction mechanism employed in a camera body, it compensates even blur in the viewfinder image during shooting, therefore it is easy to capture a subject in a focus point achieving precise focus.
- *1Reduces image blur and provides the vibration reduction effect equivalent to shutter speeds approx. three stops faster with VR and approx. four stops faster with VRII. (Nikon measurements; effects vary with the user and shooting conditions.)
- *2Vibration Reduction function is only available with VR lenses.
Built-in flash and optional Speedlights
Adjusts the light automatically — pop-up type built-in flash
When you shoot in low-light, backlit or shaded conditions, the D5100 detects the situation of the subject, pops up the built-in flash automatically and fires*. An optimal amount of light for the scene realizes naturally reproduced images.
- *When shooting mode is set to Auto, Portrait, Child, Close up, Night portrait, Party/indoor, Pet portrait or Color sketch.
Lets you enjoy shooting with flash easily — optional Speedlight
If light with the built-in flash is insufficient, it is recommended to use an optional Speedlight. Bounce flash operation, which bounces the flash light off the ceiling or a wall, is made possible with a Speedlight. It fills your shooting scenes with soft light, minimizes unnatural shadows caused by direct flash light and produces a more natural-looking image.
- Bounce shooting is suitable to portray a subject with natural ambience.
Compact and lightweight. Flash head (light emitting section) can be tilted in four steps vertically for bounce flash operation. Recommended as a first Speedlight because of its simple, useful functions and operability.
Flash head (light emitting section) can be tilted both vertically and horizontally. You can take advantage of a variety of bounce flash operation. The latest functions are condensed in this Speedlight to enable a wide range of users from entry to advanced level to enjoy flash shooting.
Embeds location information on an image — GPS Unit GP-1 (optional)
The D5100 is compatible with GPS Unit GP-1 that is able to embed location information on an image. Latitude, longitude and altitude of a shooting location are recorded as Exif data. Images with location information can be displayed on a GeoTag workspace of ViewNX 2 (supplied with the D5100). Also, Nikon's image sharing and storage website my Picturetown, online image sharing services and commercially available digital mapping software enhance your photographic enjoyment.
Enables playback of still images and movies on High-Definition TV —
The D5100 supports HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) that allows you to play back still images and movies with High-Definition TV*1. HDMI mini connector (Type C) is employed as the interface. Also, the D5100 is compatible with HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electric Control) that enables remote operation of the camera using a TV's remote control*2.
- *1Requires optional HDMI connection for playback.
